Lemlist alternative

The warm alternative to Lemlist: get known in the comments before you land in the inbox.

Lemlist is one of the strongest cold email tools around. Deliverability, warm-up for your sending addresses, personalized sequences, and LinkedIn steps on its multichannel plan. Icebreakly is not an email tool and puts nothing in anyone’s inbox. It works in a place where senior people still read what outsiders write: the comments under their own LinkedIn posts. Give it a few weeks there, and the email you send through Lemlist arrives from someone they recognize.

The short answer

Stay with Lemlist if email is your main channel and you need sequences, deliverability tooling and a lead database in one product. Pick Icebreakly if your target list is short and senior, and cold email to those people goes unopened. A setup worth trying uses both: Icebreakly makes the name familiar on LinkedIn, then Lemlist sends the email.

Lemlist and Icebreakly, side by side

These two tools do different jobs, so this is not a scorecard. The table says plainly what each one does, including everything Icebreakly leaves out on purpose.

Why warm first, even if you keep Lemlist

01

Warm-up for the sender, not only for the mailbox

Lemlist warms your sending address so mail providers trust it. Nothing in an email tool warms you, the person, in the mind of the recipient. That is the gap Icebreakly fills. Six comments on a CMO’s posts across a month, each about what she actually wrote, and your name in her inbox is no longer unknown.

02

The inbox is crowded. The comment section is not.

A senior buyer receives a steady stream of cold email, much of it filtered or skimmed. The comments under their own posts make a far smaller pile, and authors tend to read them. Icebreakly drafts a relevant reply to each lead’s latest post, usually within a day of it going up.

03

LinkedIn as a relationship, not as step three

On Lemlist’s multichannel plan, LinkedIn shows up as steps in a sequence: a visit, an invite, a message between emails. Icebreakly treats LinkedIn as the place a lead gets to know you over weeks. There are no steps. There is a touch each time they post.

04

A clear cue for when to start the sequence

The warming tracker counts touches for each lead. Around five, they are Familiar. Around twelve, Trusted, and they join the warm list. That is a sensible moment to add them to a Lemlist campaign. No native sync exists between the two, so the hand-off is a quick manual step. You can read the warm list in the app or ask Claude for it through Icebreakly’s MCP server.

05

A flat price beside a per-user one

Lemlist’s multichannel plan, the one with LinkedIn steps, is charged per user. Icebreakly’s Standard plan is $49 a month for one LinkedIn account and 100 monitored leads. Pro is $99 for three accounts and 300 leads in a team workspace. Next to an existing Lemlist subscription, it is a modest extra line for the accounts where a cold email would be wasted.

Who should stay with Lemlist

Lemlist is the right tool if you reach buyers by email and need the plumbing that makes cold email work: warmed sending addresses, sequences, a database to pull contacts from. Icebreakly has none of that. It cannot find an address, send an email or manage a reply. Keep Lemlist for all of it. The open question is only whether your most important recipients know your name before the first email arrives.

  • Cold email done properly: sequencing, several sending addresses per user and inbox warm-up for deliverability
  • Personalization tools for email, custom images and text among them
  • LinkedIn steps, calls and other channels on the multichannel plan
  • A built-in lead database with email and phone finding
  • An active community and a deep library of outbound playbooks

How to add warming without dropping Lemlist

Nothing about your Lemlist setup changes. You are adding a few weeks of LinkedIn presence in front of the emails that matter most.

  1. 1

Choose the 50 to 100 accounts that matter most

Open the list you already prospect from and mark the people where one signed deal would change your quarter. Fifty to a hundred names is plenty. Everybody else stays exactly where they are today.

  2. 2

Hold those contacts back from Lemlist for now

Pause or remove the chosen people from any live email sequence. Let them see your name under their posts for a few weeks first. The email will still be there to send, and by then it comes from somebody they have met in public.

  3. 3

    Add their LinkedIn profile URLs

Create a comment campaign, connect your LinkedIn account and paste in each person’s profile link. From then on Icebreakly checks each of those profiles every day and drafts a comment on the person’s latest post.

  4. 4

Train a Voice on the way you write

Set the tone, the usual length and the language. Say whether you use emoji. Paste in a handful of comments you have written yourself and list anything that is off limits. Drafts then read like you and answer what the person posted.

  5. 5

    Begin in Approval mode

Each draft lands in the “Needs your review” queue with its touch number on it. Approve it, edit it or skip it. When the drafts stop needing edits, move the campaign to Autopilot and it posts inside your guardrails, at roughly one comment per lead per day.

  6. 6

Reach out when the tracker says they know you

A lead becomes Familiar at about five touches and Trusted at about twelve, which is when they join the warm list. That is the moment for an invite or a message. Write it by hand, or put the lead back into your sequencer with an opening line about the conversation under their posts.

Lemlist alternative: common questions

Is Icebreakly a Lemlist alternative for cold email?

No. Icebreakly does not send email, warm mailboxes or manage deliverability. It is an alternative to opening cold. It comments on your chosen leads’ LinkedIn posts in your voice so they know your name, and it sends no emails, invites or direct messages. If you need a cold email platform, Lemlist or a similar tool is what you want.

Should I replace Lemlist or run Icebreakly next to it?

Next to it, in most cases. Lemlist handles email sending and everything around it. Icebreakly handles the weeks before the first email, on LinkedIn. Use Icebreakly on the 50 to 100 accounts you most want, and keep Lemlist sequences running for the wider list. It replaces Lemlist outright only if you decide to stop cold emailing your top accounts altogether and write to them by hand once they are warm.

How do I time the Lemlist sequence after warming?

Use the warming tracker. Each lead shows a touch count and a stage. At about five touches a lead is Familiar, and at about twelve they are Trusted and appear on the warm list. Starting the email sequence somewhere between those two points is reasonable. Earlier than five and the name may not have registered yet.

Does Icebreakly find email addresses?

No. Finding or verifying email addresses is not part of the Icebreakly product. The Icebreakly site has a separate free LinkedIn Email Finder page, but it is a standalone tool and is not connected to comment campaigns. Lemlist’s own database and finder, or whichever source you already use, is still how you get addresses.

Do Lemlist and Icebreakly sync?

No. Icebreakly has no native connection to Lemlist or to any CRM. Its integrations are Slack notifications, an MCP server for Claude and other MCP clients, and bring-your-own-proxy. Moving a warmed lead into a Lemlist campaign is a manual step: take the name from the warm list and add it to your sequence.

What should the first email say after warming?

Refer to the exchange that already exists. Mention the post of theirs you commented on, or the reply they left under your comment, and move from that topic to your reason for writing. An email that starts from a shared exchange reads as a continuation. For these accounts, keep it short and write it yourself.

Will this work if my buyers are not active on LinkedIn?

Not well. Icebreakly comments only when a monitored lead publishes a post, so people who never post give it nothing to respond to. For an audience that lives in email and ignores LinkedIn, a well-run Lemlist sequence is the better use of your budget.
