Engage AI alternative

The Engage AI alternative for when you miss the post, not the words.

Engage AI is a Chrome extension that sits in LinkedIn’s comment box. You open a post, pick a tone, get a suggested comment, edit it and post it yourself. It lists a free option and it works on any post you open. Icebreakly covers a different half of the job. You give it a list of specific leads. It checks each of them on a daily rotation, drafts a comment on their latest post in a Voice trained on your writing, and keeps a touch count for every lead. It only works on people you add, and only when they post.

The short answer

Stay with Engage AI if you are on LinkedIn most days, want to post every comment by hand and want to start on a free plan. Pick Icebreakly if you already have the words, and the trouble is that a named list of leads keeps posting while you are in meetings. The two also work side by side: Engage AI for whatever you come across in the feed, Icebreakly for the list you cannot afford to miss.

Engage AI and Icebreakly, side by side

Both tools help you comment on LinkedIn posts, so this table is closer to like for like than most on this site. It is still not a scorecard. Several rows end in a plain No for Icebreakly, and those rows are there on purpose.

Icebreakly publishes this page. The Engage AI column comes from engage-ai.co, its blog and its Chrome Web Store listing as they read on October 2, 2026. We have not tested Engage AI hands-on, and vendors change plans often, so confirm the details there before you decide.

Where Icebreakly differs from Engage AI

01

Engage AI starts when you open the post. Icebreakly starts before that.

A drafting extension helps at the comment box, which means you have already found the post. Icebreakly covers the step before. It checks every lead on your list on a daily rotation and puts a draft in your review queue, usually within about a day of the post going up. A VP of Finance posts about a budget freeze on Tuesday. By Wednesday the draft is waiting, and you never opened her profile.

02

A list of named leads, not whatever the feed shows

Engage AI works on any post in front of you, and that breadth is a strength. Icebreakly is narrow on purpose. You add LinkedIn profile URLs, pasted in or uploaded as a CSV, and those people are the only ones it comments on. Ten on the trial, 100 on Standard, 300 on Pro. The list is the product.

03

A Voice trained on comments you wrote

Engage AI gives you tones, custom prompts and settings for length, emoji and hashtags. Icebreakly asks for the same kind of guidance and then for samples: a handful of comments you wrote and were glad to post. Together with your tone, length, language, style notes and guardrails, they make a Voice, and every draft is written in it.

04

Approval or Autopilot, set per campaign

In Approval mode each draft waits in the “Needs your review” queue with its touch number, and you approve, edit or skip it. In Autopilot it posts inside your guardrails at about one comment per lead per day. Engage AI describes no second mode. Its blog says it refrains from full automation. In Icebreakly you can move a campaign between the two whenever you like.

05

What LinkedIn’s rules mean for each

LinkedIn’s User Agreement tells members not to use bots or other unauthorized automated methods to comment on posts. A tool where you press Post yourself, as with Engage AI, carries less of that risk than a tool that posts for you. Icebreakly on Autopilot posts for you. Approval mode keeps a human in the loop on every comment, and it is the only mode on the free trial. LinkedIn endorses neither product.

06

A touch count for every lead

Engage AI’s store listing describes an archive of your past comments for paying users. Icebreakly counts touches per lead and moves each person through four stages: Stranger, Familiar at about five touches, Trusted at about twelve, Warm at twenty or more. Leads at twelve or more appear on a warm list. That is your cue to write to them. Icebreakly will not send the message.

07

Several LinkedIn accounts, and Claude, in one workspace

Pro includes three LinkedIn accounts in a shared team workspace, with more at $40 a month each. The MCP server at mcp.icebreakly.com gives Claude 63 tools to add or remove monitored leads, review and approve pending comments, read warming stages and tune a Voice. Engage AI lists a different set of connections: Zapier, HubSpot, Hootsuite and Pipedrive.

What Icebreakly will not do

Engage AI covers ground that Icebreakly leaves alone. If any line here is a requirement for you, Icebreakly is the wrong tool and the extension is the right one.

  • It only works on leads you add yourself. It cannot help with a post you find in your feed.
  • It only works on leads who post. Someone who never publishes gets no comments.
  • It does not pick posts by keyword, hashtag or topic.
  • It does not write or schedule your own posts, and it has no post analytics.
  • It has no free plan. The trial lasts 7 days, then it is $49 or $99 a month.
  • It sends no messages and no connection requests.
  • It does not work inside the LinkedIn page. There is no browser extension.

Who should stay with Engage AI

Engage AI is the better tool for a lot of people. If you open LinkedIn most mornings and the slow part is the empty comment box, it puts a draft in that box and leaves the decision with you. If you comment widely, on creators, peers, customers and strangers in your feed, Icebreakly cannot follow you there, because it only works on the leads you add. If your budget is zero, Engage AI lists a free option and Icebreakly has none past its trial. And if posting every comment by hand matters to you or to your employer, Engage AI is built on that principle. Icebreakly offers it as one of two modes.

  • A free option covering the core drafting features, according to its Chrome Web Store listing
  • Works inside LinkedIn’s own comment field, on any post you open
  • You publish every comment yourself. Its blog says it refrains from full automation
  • Tones, custom prompts and settings for length, emoji, hashtags and words to include or avoid
  • Integrations listed for Zapier, HubSpot, Hootsuite and Pipedrive
  • A separate paid Engagement Community, where members comment on each other’s posts

How to try Icebreakly without giving up Engage AI

The two tools do not collide, because Engage AI only posts when you click. The simplest test is to let Icebreakly cover a short list for a week while you carry on using the extension everywhere else.

  1. 1

Keep Engage AI for the feed

Nothing needs uninstalling. Carry on using the extension for posts you come across while browsing: creators, peers, customers, anyone who is not on your list.

  2. 2

    Choose ten leads who post

Open the free trial and pick ten people you want to be known by. Check that each of them has posted in the last few weeks. A lead who never posts gives Icebreakly nothing to work with.

  3. 3

    Add their LinkedIn profile URLs

Create a comment campaign, connect your LinkedIn account and paste in the ten profile links. From then on each profile is checked on a daily rotation, and a draft is written for the latest post as long as it is no more than about a week old.

  4. 4

Train a Voice with comments you were glad to post

Go through your recent LinkedIn activity and copy five or six comments that sound like you, including ones that began as an Engage AI suggestion and ended as your own words. Add your tone, usual length, language, emoji preference and anything that is off limits.

  5. 5

Review every draft in Approval mode

The trial runs in Approval mode only. Each draft waits in the “Needs your review” queue, beside the post it answers, with its touch number. Approve it, edit it or skip it. Notice how many of those posts you would have seen that week without the queue.

  6. 6

Give each lead to one tool

Once a lead is on the Icebreakly list, leave their posts to the queue and skip the extension there, so one post never gets two comments. Both tools act on one LinkedIn account, and LinkedIn sees the total. When the tracker shows a lead at twelve or more touches, write to them yourself.

Engage AI alternative: common questions

Is Icebreakly a like-for-like alternative to Engage AI?

Partly. Both tools draft LinkedIn comments with AI. Engage AI is a Chrome extension that suggests a comment inside LinkedIn’s comment field on any post you open, and you edit and post it yourself. Icebreakly is a cloud service that checks a list of leads you add on a daily rotation, drafts a comment on each lead’s latest post in a Voice trained on your writing, and either waits for your approval or posts on Autopilot. If you want help on any post in your feed, Engage AI fits better. If you want a named list covered without browsing, Icebreakly fits better.

Does Engage AI post comments automatically?

Not according to its own pages. A 2024 post on the Engage AI blog says the product refrains from full automation, and that selecting the post, shaping the response and clicking Comment stay with the person. Its Chrome Web Store listing describes comment suggestions that appear in LinkedIn’s comment field. Icebreakly differs here. Approval mode holds every draft for you, and Autopilot mode posts without a click.

Is there a free alternative to Engage AI?

Icebreakly is not one. It has a 7-day free trial with one campaign, ten monitored leads and one LinkedIn account in Approval mode. After that, Standard is $49 a month and Pro is $99 a month. Engage AI’s store listing describes a free option for its core features, so if free is the requirement, staying with Engage AI is the honest recommendation. Icebreakly also publishes a free LinkedIn comment generator on its website, where you paste the text of a post, get drafts back and post one by hand.

Which carries more LinkedIn account risk, Engage AI or Icebreakly?

LinkedIn’s User Agreement tells members not to use bots or other unauthorized automated methods to comment on posts, and LinkedIn endorses no third-party comment tool. A tool where you post by hand, as with Engage AI, carries less of that risk than a tool that posts for you, which is what Icebreakly’s Autopilot mode does. Approval mode keeps a human in the loop: nothing is posted until you have read and approved it. Icebreakly paces its activity at about one comment per lead per day with no bursts. No vendor can promise that an account will never be restricted.

Does Icebreakly have a Chrome extension?

No. You connect your LinkedIn account in the web app and Icebreakly works from a dedicated cloud browser session, so nothing is installed and your computer does not need to be on. The trade-off is real. Icebreakly cannot help with a post you happen to find while browsing unless its author is already on your monitored list.

How soon does Icebreakly comment after a lead posts?

Usually within about a day. Icebreakly checks monitored leads on a daily rotation, not continuously, and it comments on a lead’s most recent post as long as that post is no more than about a week old. On most lists every lead is checked once a day, and a very large list rotates over a few days. If speed matters more to you than coverage, opening LinkedIn yourself and drafting with an extension such as Engage AI will be quicker.

Can I use Engage AI and Icebreakly together?

Yes. They cover different moments. Icebreakly handles new posts from the leads on your list, and Engage AI helps you draft on anything else you open. Engage AI posts only when you click, so the two never compete to publish, but everything comes from one LinkedIn account. Avoid commenting on the same post with both, and keep an eye on your total activity for the day.

Does Engage AI monitor prospects as well?

Engage AI’s blog describes a prospect monitoring hub on its paid plan, for following a list of prospects and seeing their latest updates in one place. You still read and answer each post yourself. Its home page today is about its Engagement Community and does not describe that feature, so check inside the product for what is included now. Icebreakly takes the idea further for a fixed list: it checks each lead daily, writes the draft and keeps a touch count and warming stage for every lead.

Who wrote this comparison, and how were the Engage AI facts checked?

Icebreakly publishes this page, so it describes a competitor next to its own product. The statements about Engage AI come from its website, its blog and its Chrome Web Store listing as they read on October 2, 2026. Icebreakly has not tested Engage AI hands-on. Plans and features change, so confirm anything that matters to you on Engage AI’s own pages.
